This individual reclaims specific language from their upbringing, for instance revising “Christian” to “Christian-ish” and using “God” to describe concepts of “Iife force, connection, and hope.” How much of the language for spiritual individuals is mapped on from a religious linguistic framework, for instance perhaps even the word “spiritual” itself?
"I was taught to believe that God is an all-powerful being that oversees every person, every decision, and every thought in the world. But now I no longer believe that and think of faith as something that is individual and (hopefully) empowering, that helps every person understand and feel hopeful about themselves and their place in the world. My sunflower reminds me that spirituality is a much broader concept than just an all-powerful God, but is the life force, connection, and hope that sustains and flows through every living thing."
