I am compelled by the language that this candle can be lit as an act of accessing spirituality. From a material culture perspective, I am wondering how the candle’s agency and meaning as an object changes when an individual seeks to turn on the light versus when it is off.
"At college, I feel a different connection to faith. No longer is faith a familial pressure to participate in, but something I can return to when I need it most. This candle represents that. Its electric, so It’s light can be present or absent as I need it. I have “lit” it in times of stress, or whenever I have felt called to pray these past couple of months."
