This individual names taking photographs as a spiritual act, in particular the action of pressing their face to the small camera view finder. This action of seeing this from a more ‘small’ perspective feels like an interesting physicalization of one particular spiritual grappling on the relationship between the individual and society/ world.
"Creating and experiencing art are the most spiritual experiences that I have. Specifically when I take, develop, and print my own photographs. When taking photographs, I feel connected to both my camera and my subject. I have my face pressed up into the view finder where I can only see a small, distorted version of the world in front of me. In the darkroom, where I print, I feel like I am in a sacred space where I am connected with myself and the photographs I am producing."
